Affordable accident insurance options in the Philippines
BPI-AIA offers its Accident Guard 24/7 plan for individuals, couples, parents, and families. It covers accidental dismemberment, disablement, and death, including murder.
Policyholders can get an extra 25% of the principal sum if an injury causes loss of hands, feet, or both eyes. Annual premiums begin around Php1,200 for Php300,000 in coverage, while the priciest individual plan runs Php10,032.80 yearly for Php2 million in protection.
Fortune General’s most affordable personal accident plan starts at Php951.85 per year for Php250,000 in coverage. The maximum limit is Php1 million, which costs Php2,676.87 annually.
That plan includes motorcycle accidents, unprovoked assault, and murder. It also provides Php25,000 each for burial and medical expenses, plus a Php250 daily hospital income benefit for up to 30 days.

Government employees have their own option. GSIS members and their families can get My Shield Personal Accident Insurance starting at Php56 per year. The top tier provides Php5 million in protection for Php3,280 annually. The policy covers accidental death, unprovoked murder and assault, disability, and loss of sight, hearing, or speech.
Manulife Philippines offers the 365 Ready Accident plan in five tiers. The cheapest costs Php199 per year for a base coverage amount, and the maximum limit reaches seven figures at Php1,299 annually.
The policy doubles the benefit if injuries happen while riding public utility transport, inside an elevator, or in a burning public establishment. Non-accidental deaths still pay out 5% of the face amount, subject to a cap.
Metropolitan Insurance Company Inc. posts one of the lowest entry points on the list with yearly premiums starting at Php45. That plan provides up to Php20,000 for accidental death and disablement, plus 10% of the sum insured for burial and medical costs. For breadwinners, Oona Insurance designed its Plan 500 around family needs. It pays up to Php500,000 each for accidental death and permanent disablement. The plan also includes a monthly shelter allowance for a year, Php30,000 yearly educational assistance per child for up to four children over five years, and Php10,000 annual hospitalization coverage for dependents.
Starr Accident Protect’s basic plan covers Php100,000 for accidental death, dismemberment, and disablement, including unprovoked assault and murder. It adds medical reimbursement and Php2,500 each for burial, burn injuries, and accidents involving common carriers. The top-tier plan provides a much higher limit for Php4,350 per year.
Sun Life Personal Accident Armor pays up to a base amount for accidental death, dismemberment, or loss of sight with annual premiums starting at Php60. Policyholders can double the benefit by buying a second plan. The policy is available through Lazada Philippines, GCash, and Moneygment, but it excludes work-related injuries for aviators, construction workers, detectives, fishermen, loggers, miners, security guards, and window cleaners.
TrueMoney partnered with Bankers Assurance to offer the Tunay Mag-Alaga plan for low-income families. Premiums start at that same low rate for three months of coverage, which includes a death benefit and medical reimbursement. Extending the plan to four, six, or 12 months costs Php35, Php50, and Php100 respectively.
What stands out across these options is how low the entry barrier has become. A worker earning minimum wage can secure a basic policy for less than the cost of a meal, which matters in a country where out-of-pocket medical expenses often push families into debt. The trade-off is straightforward: cheaper plans come with tighter coverage limits and more exclusions, so buyers should read the policy documents carefully before committing.

How accident insurance works and what it covers
Accident insurance pays a lump sum if the policyholder suffers an injury, permanent disability, or death due to an accident. Beneficiaries can use the money for medical costs, daily living expenses, or children’s education. Most policies cover accidental dismemberment, disablement, and death, including incidents from unprovoked assault or murder. Insurers specify in the policy document what portion of the sum insured applies to different injuries.
Filipinos typically access personal accident insurance in two ways. Employers often include it as a group benefit, so workers should check with their HR teams about what’s covered. Individual plans can be purchased through insurance agents or financial advisers.
Accident insurance differs from life insurance in one key way: life coverage pays out regardless of whether death comes from an accident or natural causes like illness. Life policies also tend to have longer terms, and some include investment components. Health insurance, by contrast, pays medical providers directly for treatment costs rather than giving the policyholder cash to spend freely. Health plans usually cover a broader range of illnesses and injuries, including non-accidental causes.
For anyone with financial dependents, accident insurance is worth considering.
Accidents can disrupt the ability to earn, and having coverage eases some of the financial strain that comes with losing regular income.
