Mastodon Mesa operates on a simple premise: if you’re building a community, you shouldn’t have to subsidize it with your own wallet. However, that doesn’t mean you get to run a colony of freeloaders. As a client, your primary responsibility is maintaining the integrity of your node. You are strictly prohibited from soliciting non-consensual sexual content, threatening violence, or using our analytics tools to coordinate harassment campaigns. We track which fediverse instances turn user growth into sustainable hosting revenue, and we will flag nodes that turn into “toxic waste dumps” or engage in coordinated inauthentic behavior. If your server becomes a vector for abuse, we reserve the right to revoke access immediately.

You are responsible for all content generated on your instance. That includes the ugly stuff, the spam, and the intellectual property violations. We don’t have a content moderation team watching your feed 24/7, but we do have algorithms and human auditors watching your metrics. We expect you to use Mastodon Mesa’s revenue-generation insights to filter out low-quality signals before they scale. Don’t come crying to us when your instance gets federated-blocked because your user base didn’t know how to conduct themselves like adults in a digital public square.

Additionally, you must adhere to all applicable laws, including data privacy statutes like GDPR and CCPA. Do not scrape our platform for data mining purposes or use our revenue tracking metrics for competitive intelligence that violates our terms. If you are building a platform, you need to be prepared to own it. If you can’t handle the responsibility of being a moderator and a revenue-generator simultaneously, you might be in the wrong business. Keep your hands off our data, keep your users in check, and don’t expect us to clean up your mess.
