Convera names Jon Southall as CTO

Convera, a worldwide leader in commercial payments, has named Jon Southall as its Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. With deep expertise in payments infrastructure, Southall will drive the firm’s vision to integrate cross-border transactions, foreign exchange (FX) risk tools, and multi-currency solutions into a unified platform.
Southall joins Convera from PayPal, where he managed the Large Enterprise Platform, supporting over $1.5 trillion in annual transaction volume. His previous experience includes building and scaling payment platforms at Boku and Braintree.
In his new role, Southall will help deliver Convera’s technology roadmap, focusing on making international money movement faster, more reliable, and more transparent for business customers. Convera’s strategy aims to bring together capabilities such as sending, receiving, and holding money in various currencies, managing FX risk, and routing transactions according to speed, cost, and visibility.
Southall’s appointment comes as businesses operating across borders face increasingly complex payment requirements. The ability to connect payment infrastructure with currency management and multi-currency services is essential for developing more integrated international financial services. Southall’s experience overseeing a platform operating at significant transaction volumes provides relevant expertise as Convera advances its offering.
Southall’s appointment is one of four senior leadership changes announced by Convera, including the appointments of Mike Cahill as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Tui Allen as Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer, and Chris Steinig as Chief Information Officer. According to Mike Cahill, this team brings complementary strengths across product, technology, and operations, backed by experience delivering at global scale.
Patrick Gauthier, Group CEO, notes that businesses need to know where their money is, what it is worth, and how to protect it as it moves. Convera’s global reach, FX expertise, regulatory depth, and customer relationships enable the company to solve this problem in a way few providers can. The new leadership team is expected to help Convera deliver on its roadmap for integrated cross-border money movement.
The company’s focus is on disciplined execution, translating customer needs into products, modernizing the technology that supports them, and delivering consistently in every market it serves. With the new leadership team in place, Convera aims to make cross-border money movement simpler, more connected, and more valuable for its customers.
